On the Occasion of World Archaeology Day: The Book “Archaeology of Iran from the Paleolithic to the Achaemenid Empire” Unveiled
On the occasion of World Archaeology Day, the book “Archaeology of Iran from the Paleolithic to the Achaemenid Empire” authored by Dr. Roger Matthews and Dr. Hassan Fazeli Nashli, and translated by Dr. Javad Hosseinzadeh Sadati and Ashkan Oulipourian, was published by the National Museum of Iran Publications. The unveiling ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, with the presence of prominent scholars and researchers in the fields of history and archaeology.
Dr. Javad Hosseinzadeh, a faculty member of the Department of Archaeology at the University of Kashan, stated that this book provides a comprehensive and innovative overview of archaeological research in Iran, covering periods from the Paleolithic era to the end of the Achaemenid period in 330 BCE.
He added that one of the key features of this work is its reliance on the latest archaeological studies and its collaboration with 54 Iranian and 64 foreign archaeologists, marking a new chapter in the study of Iranian archaeology.
Dr. Hosseinzadeh further noted that the book makes extensive use of interdisciplinary studies and includes over 500 color images, more than 3,000 academic references, and the latest maps and topics addressing human–environment interactions, climate change, social complexity, and individual and collective identities. These elements make the volume a significant academic reference in the field of Iranian studies.
The book, authored by Dr. Roger Matthews and Dr. Hassan Fazeli Nashli, comprises 872 pages, measuring 26 by 20 centimeters with a thickness of 3.17 centimeters. All pages are printed on high-quality glossy paper.
