Plaster-Molding Seminar on Iranian Architecture began with the participation of professors, researchers, craftsmen, architects, and students of architecture and archeology this morning at University of Kashan.

University of Kashan Chancellor, Professor Abbas Zerraat, appreciated the meeting organizers’ effort for holding the seminar and emphasized the necessity of experience exchange and promotion of educational development of students.

He pointed out that since Kashan is one of the ancient cities in the world, it has got positive potentials for archeology students and added: students should take advantage of this potentials so as to solve the problem of unemployment.

University of Kashan Chancellor stated that this meeting which is held with close cooperation with University of Bamberg, Germany, and the Bumiller Collection and participation of Prof. Dr. Lorenz Korn, can be a good opportunity for exchange and communication of scientific researchers and students interested in archeology and hoped that this two-day scientific gathering will bring good results.

A faculty member of the Department of Archeology of University of Kashan and Head Kashan Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Office, Dr. Mohsen Javeri, said one of the creativities of Iranian architecture throughout history is that by using several materials and various decorative architecture tools, Iranian Architecture has created enormous artistic sceneries.

He accounted plaster as one of the materials in molding and added: we can see decorated architecture in the surrounding buildings of Kashan with plaster works from the Sassanid, Seljuk and Islamic eras that needs to be explored.

He expressed his appreciation of the organizers’ effort of this scientific seminar and hoped that by presenting scientific papers and lectures, they could achieve significant results in the art of plaster-molding in Iranian architecture.

Dr. Majid Montazer Zohouri, Scientific Secretary of this seminar on the plaster-molding in Iranian architecture stated that the purpose of the meeting is to present the latest articles on plaster-molding. He said: Since the majority of the articles are scattered around the media, we tried to hold this seminar for researchers and professors to gather and exchange the latest scientific achievements in the field of plaster-molding.

Another objective of this seminar is to build the association with foreign universities and exchange the scientific experiences and architectural highlights of researchers. Dr. Montazer Zohouri expressed his hope for holding such meetings on an annual basis.

Dr. Nouri Shadmehani, the Executive Secretary of this seminar said: this specialized seminar is held with the efforts of University of Kashan, University of Bamberg (Otto-Friedrich), Germany, and in cooperation with the Kashan Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Office and The Bumiller Collection on April 22nd and 23rd, 2017 in Kashan.

Dr. Nuri Shadmehani stated that the seminar will focus on technological (technique, execution, materials, tools and dyes), design and array of decorative plaster-molds, and close examination of the affecting factors on the formation and quality of plaster decorations (role of the entrepreneur, designer, and climate).

He mentioned that the objective of this seminar is to focus on array of plaster-molding in decoration of Islamic buildings and added: these plaster-molding arrays, on the one hand, are rooted in pre-Islamic architecture and, on the other hand, are influenced by Islamic teachings which are realized in the monuments of the Seljuk and Ilkhanate eras.

Dr. Nuri Shadmehani pointed out that the most important feature of this seminar is the attendance of Professor Dr. Lorenz Korn, one of the most famous professors in Islamic architecture in the world, who will deliver a lecture during the seminar. In this seminar, 25 accepted articles of prominent university professors and experienced craftsmen will be presented to the audience.

 

 

Prof. Dr. Lorenz Korn is a professor in faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies of University of Bamberg. He is specialized in Islamic Architecture and is well-known for his studies in Islamic architecture of Iran and Central Asia.
