UNESCO calls for maintaining Qalishouyan ritual in Kashan
Kashan, Isfahan province, Oct 3, IRNA – UNESCO representative in Iran said maintaining traditional custom of Qalishouyan (carpet washing) ritual in Ardahal, Kashan, is important for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
On the sidelines of a gathering dubbed as 'Ardahal Epic' in the historical House of the Tabatabaeis in Kashan on Thursday evening, Esther Kuisch Laroch said the traditional ceremony of Qalishouyan in Kashan is attractive and important for all people in the world.
She stressed that the ritual has been held for centuries without any cessation by many generations.
She added that UNESCO attaches much importance to Iran's cultural heritage, including the city of Kashan and Iran should try to register them as world heritage.
Qalishouyan ritual is held on the second Friday of Mehr Month (early October).
Ardahal is located 45 kilometers north west of Kashan city.
