A unique water supply system has been identified in the Noushabad Underground City in Kashan, Isfahan province, said the caretaker of Noushabad Cultural Heritage Base.

Zahra Saroukhani added that the fourth phase of excavations was launched on Aug. 6 in this rocky region with the permission of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.

The project is sponsored y Noushabad Municipality.

Monuments in the village date back to Safavid, Ilkhanid and Seljuk eras.

One of the masterpieces of rocky architecture of Noushabad is the water supply system initiated during the Safavid era.

Saroukhani said a huge volume of potteries, discovered in second and fourth phases, shows the use of all pottery techniques of Islamic eras.

The Cultural Heritage Base of Noushabad plans to prepare a databank of Islamic potteries.

Noushabad Underground City was registered on the National Heritage List in August 2006.
