Launching a Traditional Textile Workshop at the Faculty of Architecture and Art, Kashan University

Dr. Babak Alami, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Art at Kashan University, announced the launch of a traditional textile workshop in the Handicrafts Department of the faculty.

Referring to the implementation of new educational curricula for the Handicrafts program, he stated: "This workshop has been established with the aim of enhancing students' vocational and specialized training and in line with the greater integration of theoretical education with practical skills. Furthermore, efforts have been made to utilize existing capacities to provide a platform for the revival, training, and promotion of the valuable art of traditional textiles, as one of the most significant manifestations of the cultural identity of the Kashan region."

The Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Art at Kashan University, emphasizing the historical significance of textiles in the cultural region of Kashan, added: "Kashan has long been one of the important centers for the production of traditional textiles in Iran, and the production of valuable fabrics such as Zari, velvet, Darayi, and other exquisite handwoven items, attests to the brilliant history of this art in the region. Therefore, the establishment of a traditional textile workshop at Kashan University can play a significant role in preserving, recreating, and transferring this valuable heritage to the new generation."

Dr. Alami, explaining the educational programs of this workshop, said: "Students in this workshop will become familiar with all stages of traditional fabric production. Training in dyeing fibers using natural materials, warp winding, designing traditional motifs, preparing weaving looms, and weaving various types of traditional fabrics are among the planned components of these training courses."

He also noted: "The launch of this workshop, in addition to strengthening students' scientific and practical capabilities, will provide a platform for conducting applied research in the field of identifying, documenting, and reviving the motifs, techniques, and historical weaving methods of the Kashan region, and can lead to the development of research and technological activities in the field of handicrafts."

The Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Art at Kashan University cited the university's interaction with the local community and artists as other goals of this initiative, adding: "Kashan University has always strived to establish an effective connection between university education and the cultural and artistic capacities of the region. The traditional textile workshop can also provide a suitable ground for collaboration with local master craftsmen, handicraft artists, and activists in this field, and play a role in developing entrepreneurship and employment for graduates."

Dr. Alami concluded by expressing hope that with the participation of faculty members, students, and local master craftsmen, the traditional textile workshop of the Faculty of Architecture and Art will become a dynamic center for education, research, production, and revival of traditional textiles, and will make an effective contribution to the preservation of the cultural and artistic heritage of the Kashan cultural region.
