On the occasion of Student Day, a collaborative meeting was held between the acting president of Kashan University and the secretaries of student scientific associations on Monday, December 9, 1403, in the Sardar Soleimani Hall of the university's central administration building.
The meeting was attended by the secretaries of 44 student scientific associations, along with Dr. Soltani, the acting university president, the vice president, and director of cultural affairs of the university.
This informal gathering provided an opportunity for close interaction and dialogue between the secretaries of scientific associations and the acting president. During the session, 15 representatives discussed some of the challenges, obstacles, requirements, and strategies for ameliorating the associations.
Dr. Soltani emphasized the vital role of scientific associations as one of the highest and most influential student bodies in the university, describing them as the driving force behind the university’s growth and progress. He remarked that the associations, through their development and innovation, can contribute significantly to the university’s overall advancement.
Highlighting the importance of learning from the experiences and strategies of top global universities, Dr. Soltani outlined the three main responsibilities of universities: education, research, and entrepreneurship. He noted that all three can be effectively pursued through the extensive capacities and platforms offered by student scientific associations.
Dr. Soltani addressed the existing challenges in the university's educational and research fields, presenting three strategies to overcome them: support from philanthropists, cost reduction efforts, and entrepreneurship. He proudly mentioned that Kashan University is the first in the country to establish an Innovation and Economic Affairs Vice Presidency, demonstrating the university's strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation.
He also stressed the need for a fundamental shift in the mission of universities, advocating for a focus on entrepreneurship in addition to education and research. He cited renowned global institutions like MIT, which are recognized as entrepreneurial universities, noting that their evaluation criteria go beyond merely publishing scientific papers.
Dr. Soltani highlighted that Kashan University ranks first among Iranian universities in attracting philanthropists and securing their financial support. He added that this capability can be leveraged to address some of the financial challenges faced by scientific associations and suggested utilizing the resources provided by benefactors effectively.
During the meeting, it was decided that students should focus on identifying practical ideas related to real-world market issues within their respective fields. These ideas will be evaluated by academic advisors, and the final outcomes will be presented to the university’s president to facilitate entrepreneurship within specialized domains.
